Steam shows Windows 11 is on the decline after all

Ana sayfa / Windows

Steam shared the results of its regular monthly hardware and software surveys. The surveys covering the month of September revealed new information about which operating system versions users are using. The most popular operating systems experienced unexpected declines in September.

Windows 11 user numbers declined

According to a hardware and software survey conducted by Steam, adoption of Windows 11 has declined month after month. The latest figures, covering September, show that Windows 11 is used by 37 percent of Steam users, down 1.79 percentage points from the previous month.

This means that for the first time in months, PC gamers are less favorable to Windows 11. Topping the list of most popular operating systems is Windows 10, up 1.9 points. The older operating system appeals to a base of 57 percent.

Windows 11 activation: No more free upgrade from Windows 7 and 8

Windows 11 activation will no longer be able to use Windows 7 or Windows 8 keys. Microsoft will only accept new codes.

Windows 7 and Windows 8, which are no longer supported by Microsoft, represent only 1-2 percent of Steam users. This suggests that users are migrating from older operating systems to Windows 10 and 11.

It’s also worth noting that Valve will be discontinuing support for systems older than Windows 10 starting next year. This means that usage will decline even further in the coming months.
